Founded in 2023, Meridian Australis is one of Melbourne’s leading creative collectives. With a goal to nurture the nascent speculative fiction community in Melbourne, and a deep belief in the importance of short fiction, Meridian Australis brings together Melbourne’s most passionate and talented emerging writers to create a community where they can work towards shared goals.

Starting life as a single critique circle, Meridian Australis quickly expanded to several groups based all around Melbourne. Beyond the critique circles, Meridian Australis also hosts a fiction podcast, publishes regular digital zines, and is in the process of editing and releasing its inaugural anthology, AUSTRAL.

Meridian Australis operates primarily on unceded, sovereign Wurundjeri land, and we pay our respects to the storytelling traditions of the First Nations people of this Country, past and present.
